If US universities are graduating fewer hands-on builders while China doubles down on applied engineering, the talent gap shifts from “smart people” to “people who can ship hardware and systems.” For operators, that means investing more in in-house training, apprenticeship-style pipelines, and partnerships with the few programs still teaching how to build, not just theorize.
