When buying AI hardware outright beats renting cloud AI, the balance of power shifts toward whoever controls capex, power, and datacenter buildout—not just API endpoints. If you’re a heavy AI user, you should be running TCO models on reserved cloud, managed neocloud, and owned clusters rather than assuming hyperscaler on-demand is default.
