Tips for building an AI-powered PC
THE SO WHAT
The “AI PC” is quickly becoming a build spec—GPU/NPUs, VRAM, and local model support—rather than a marketing label. If you’re speccing developer or analyst machines, bake AI workloads into your baseline requirements now to avoid near-term obsolescence.

Applied AIPartnering with Blacksmith
If agents can write production-scale code, the new bottleneck is proving that code is safe, performant, and compliant at the same speed. Expect “agent-era CI/CD” vendors like Blacksmith to become a required layer in any serious agent deployment, not a nice-to-have devtool.
Applied AIAmazon’s TorchNeuron lets PyTorch code run on AWS Trainium chips
Making Trainium2/3 accessible via a one-line PyTorch backend swap goes straight at Nvidia’s software moat—if the feature gaps are tolerable, infra teams can start arbitraging cost and availability without rewriting models. For anyone training at scale on AWS, this week is about benchmarking TorchNeuron and documenting which workloads can move first.
Applied AIA successful AI pilot doesn’t mean your AI strategy is working
If only 37% of companies report earnings impact from AI while 80% plan to increase spend, pilots are functioning as theater more than transformation. Treat every new AI initiative as guilty until it proves P&L relevance—tie it to a specific cost line or revenue motion before you greenlight scale-up.
This chart shows how junior-level hiring is down at Anthropic due to AI
If a frontier lab is explicitly reducing junior technical hiring because agents cover more of the work, every engineering-heavy org needs a plan for a thinner entry-level pipeline. Revisit your talent model—where do you still need humans to grow into senior roles if AI is compressing the ladder from the bottom.
